For PDFCreator 3.0, we have analyzed every aspect of the user interface works and have redesigned the application to make it as intuitive and easy to use as possible without diminishing the rich feature set of the application.
Important announcement
PDFCreator 3.0 requires the .Net Framework 4.5.1 and therefore Windows Vista or above. Windows XP is no longer supported. If you need Windows XP support, please use PDFCreator 2.x instead.
PDFCreator Plus, Business or Terminal Server: The way PDFCreator is activated has changed. Usually, this should not cause any trouble. If you should receive the error that the activation limit was reached though, you can reset your activations in the license server: http://go.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator/ac...-limit-reached
Improvements
The user interface has been completely redesigned to make it as good looking and accessible as possible. The amount of clicks a user has to perform should be reduced while moving things to the expected places.
Auto save and interactive conversion are now defined as first thing when configuring a profile, as the completely changes the behaviour of the profile.
You have been able to configure accounts in some place in the PDFCreator profiles already (i.e. SMTP server and FTP server). This has been moved to the application level. You can now configure an account once and use it in multiple profiles.
The merge window has been redesigned to provide more information on the documents in the queue.
The title replacements are now easier to configure. The logic also has slightly changed, as most users just used it to remove things from the print document titles. If you want to actually replace it with another value, you have to use regular expressions now.
To match the new modern layout, PDFCreator 3.0 comes with a new logo and a redesigned test page
Wherever Tokens are supported, there is a token button now to give access to the tokens available
A new send action has been added to send the converted files via HTTP to a web hook
Triple-clicking a text box will now select the whole text, even if it contains multiple words.
The defaults for the settings were reconsidered. We now use the strongest available encryption for PDF files by default and also have reasonable security settings. When a PDF is protected, the default is now to allow to open and print the document, but not to allow any modification.
PDFCreator 3.0 is available in 29 languages now. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all translators and to welcome the new translations Estonian, Hungarian and Romanian.
Bugs fixed
PDFCreator Plus, Business or Terminal Server: When accessing the COM interface from a 32 bit process on a 64 bit machine, you could receive an exception. This was because the PDF Tools library we use for these editions is required to match the process architecture. This has been fixed.
If the default viewer could not be opened, other action were not executed as well.
Print jobs sometimes appeared in random order in the print queue. This has now been fixed and they appear in the order they were processed in the Windows print queue.
The COM samples have been further revised to match the current state of the application and to work out of the box whereever possible.
Together with the redesign, we have fixed a lot of smaller bugs that are not listed individually here.
Known issues
File types associated with Windows store or universal apps do not support printing without user interaction. For more info see: Why can’t I convert certain types of file? (Missing context menu entry)
