Theo nhiều chuyên gia, lọc gió động cơ ôtô cần được vệ sinh sau mỗi 3.000 km hoặc mỗi tháng/lần và thay mới sau 15.000 km. Đặc biệt, trong quá trình vệ sinh, nếu lọc gió bị rách, khó làm sạch hoặc ẩm mốc thì tài xế hãy thay mới ngay lập tức.
