A Retail key and a Volume key is different, yes, but they still activate the same software. If we have a volume key, especially MAK (Multiple Activation Key) which has a longer lifetime, in comparison to the retail key, which most of the time is dead at the time they were shared, volume key is a steal.
Though if you had installed the retail copy of Office, you need a script to add support for volume activation to your copy, which nhanchu has provided you from the mentioned message. Run the script with Administrator CMD prompt and you are done, activated.

i just call ms and activated my office now ..But I just want to confirm is this okay or safe to call ms from my regular mobile number ? Because call from skype was not working ? Thanks

I have called them literally 15 times since I found this method. The reason why they have those activation numbers is because Microsoft has the program for OEM (Manufacturer) to have their Volume Key (Windows or Office) shipped with the PC when customers buy them (that's COA key). They are activated by default but for whatever reason they reinstall Windows/Office, they will have to type in that key. And the key ifself is, most of the time, require a call to Microsoft to make sure of the authenticity of the key.
When you call them, they just save a call log and nothing else.
